The debate of fresh VS frozen is a common one among Mums in particular. Whether to opt for the convenient, frozen pack of veggies, or to serve only fresh ones has us confused as to what is best.
The nutrients are higher in frozen veggies and opting for them also reduces a lot of waste in your household. Nevertheless, veggies that are picked at their peak harvest time and eaten within a day or two, are usually more nutritious than frozen. In this case, fresh is best!
The best veggies to buy fresh include cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. This is because they retain more phytochemicals and antioxidants, which studies suggest may help prevent certain cancers.
My go-to packs of frozen veggies include:
- Mixed Veggies
- Corn (although, this veggie has little nutritional value, but my kids love them!)
My top tip: choose frozen veggies when they are out of season. Opt for fresh when in season if you know they are picked at their peak time – and make sure they are eaten quickly.
