Our Major Storm Story

Unfortunately, Little Woods is among the many who suffered significant water inundation during the recent major storm event that hammered South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. 

We were so fortunate to have many volunteers from the local community help clean up and help get our warehouse operational again. All orders during this time were shipped from our office in Melbourne.

We are happy to say that our warehouse is now fully operational after a mammoth effort of clean up.

Here's what happened and how you can help our small family business please.

FROM OUR WAREHOUSE MANAGER

On Monday morning I arrived at our warehouse in Nth NSW at 4:30am after a night of rain to check the water levels as the drains nearby had seemed fairly full on Sunday.

The water felt high, it was lapping at the end of our warehouse driveway. The rain was still falling and the full drains meant that that rain water had no-where to go.

So I spent the morning putting as much of our stock on higher shelves as possible.

At 9am, when the BOM predicted that the water should peak and then recede with the tide (emptying the drains and giving the rain water somewhere to flow off too), the water was up close to the warehouse and rising as the rain was still falling. Our building owners (who had been helping put the stock up high) said “it’s time to go”, and we had to seal up all the doors with sealant and leave.

We waded out through waist high water.

But the rain water did not stop there, it kept rising until 11pm that night.

We returned to find the water not only past our door levels, but it had climbed to somewhere around 1m inside our warehouse.

No warning, unpredictably high, and with crazy impact.

Today I am grateful for our incredible friends who showed up un-asked and started the clean up. I am humbled that those friends are asking to come back tomorrow. With their help we are aiming to redeem as much stock as possible.

It is one day at a time for us at the moment. Clean up, save stock, and then get operational asap. One step after another.

We are grateful for a safe dry home and having got out safely. There are many in our little piece of the world who don’t have that at the moment.

We have a team of passionate and resilient people and a wonderful community of customers and stockists.

It's just going to set us back for a little while.
